Parliament Week at St. Gregory's

This week the children enjoyed a range of activities linked to democracy. We found out about the Women Suffragettes, Nelson Mandela, The Houses of Parliament and even Guy Fawkes!

After campaigning around school, four Year 6 candidates made their final speeches in an attempt to persuade the children to elect them as the Chairperson of the School Council. The votes were counted and after a close race, the winner was Gabriel - leader of The Purple Party.

Here is a video of his campaign speech...

Science Champs!

Last week St. Gregory's won their first silverware of the year. But it wasn't football - this time it was science!

A team representing the school had to carry out investigations and answer some tough questions on all aspects of science. They overcame competition from 10 local schools to win the trophy. Well done to everyone involved!

Year 4 Get Animated!

This week Year 4 went to BBc 21st Century Classroom in Manchester to take part in an animation workshop. It was a fantastic day and the children worked hard to produce some brilliant work.

See one of the examples below!

Double success for football teams this week...

This week saw St. Gregory's boys and girls win silverware in different competitions. Firstly on Wednesday, the girls finished their league competition with a hard fought title decider against St. George's. In a high quality game they lost out 3-1 but gave a performance to take great pride from. As a result, they earned themselves silver medals - a fantastic achievement!

Next up was the boys turn to represent St. Gregory's and the Chorley Schools District in Blackpool against 15 other regional winners. As expected the standard was incredibly high with some tremendous talent on show. After finishing 3rd in their group the boys went through to the supplementary cup and after some battling displays defeated Penwortham Primary in the final 2-0 (Brandon and Owen with the crucial goals). An amazing victory given every team had won their own district cup to qualify!

Year 3's Exciting Trip to Hoghton Tower

Today Year 3 went on a fantastic trip to Hoghton Tower. We loved looking around all the rooms in the castle and learning about the people who lived there and all the famous people who had been to visit, like King James 1, Charles Dickens and William Shakespeare, who taught there for 2 years!
It was great fun to dress up as knights, princesses, kings and queens as we explored the castle; getting a chance to dance in the ball room, look for Jimmy in the dungeons and some of us even got knighted...including Lady Miss Mair and Sir Mr.Darbyshire!!
